In future, users will have unlimited storage available for backing up videos and images. Old backups on Google will be deleted. 

As of November 12, 2018, Whatsapp backups will no longer count toward the Google Drive storage quota, as the Messenger's developers wrote on their Website.

For users, this is actually positive: From this point in theory, they have unlimited storage for backing up videos, pictures and chats on Google's cloud.

Check the Settings 

The change also means that Google will delete older backups from Google. Specifically, backups are removed if they are over one year old. In order to keep a backup of their data on Drive, users should check if they should create a new backup.

Under "Settings"> "Chats"> "Chat Backup", users see the last time a backup was made. There can also be created a new one. The change affects only the Android version. The backup of iPhone users is secured by Apple's cloud service.
